<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new IP<SB>3</SB>receptor binding protein giving an indicator effective for the detection and determination of IP<SB>3</SB>and provide a method for the detection and/or determination of IP<SB>3</SB>by using the protein. <P>SOLUTION: An IP<SB>3</SB>receptor binding protein, especially a new IP<SB>3</SB>receptor binding protein IRBIT interacting with the IP<SB>3</SB>receptor and having the interaction controlled by IP<SB>3</SB>has been identified. The IRBIT is releasable from the IP<SB>3</SB>receptor by IP<SB>3</SB>of physiological concentration.
