An implantable porous, biodegradable, three-dimensionally fixed matrix has shape memory and comprises a network of water-insoluble mineralized biopolymer fibers, a drug and a water-soluble binder which is rendered insoluble by cross-linking. The shape memory maintains the porosity of the matrix for a period of greater than 14 days after implant. Preferably the biopolymer is fibrillar collagen. The matrix can be used for repairing fibrous tissue, cartilage or bone by promoting the formations of new fibrous tissue or cartilage formation.
