<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a backlight system for a liquid crystal display device, with which thickness of the liquid crystal display device is reduced. <P>SOLUTION: The backlight system for the liquid crystal display device is equipped with: a laser diode 2 as a light source; a light guide body 5 to transmit light emitted from the laser diode 2; and a uniformizing means 3 to uniformize light made incident from the laser diode 2 and transmitted inside the light guide body 5 in a plane of the light guide body 5, wherein light output from the laser diode 2 is made incident on the uniformizing means 3, the uniformizing means 3 wave-guides the light from the laser diode 2 inside thereof, makes the wave-guided light change direction at a plurality of light taking out parts 3b arranged along the wave-guide direction, and emits it toward the light guide body 5. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT |
