PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a receiver which allows for easy selection of a language desired by a user from a plurality of languages broadcasting the character data, and to provide a reception method and a program.SOLUTION: A language determination unit 334 determines the language of character data in each program, a language selection unit 335 outputs the notification information representing the same language as a set language, set in the apparatus setting about the function of the own device, when there are a plurality of languages of the character data, and selects any one of the plurality of languages represented by the notification information.
