<p>1303513 Power-assisted steering mechanism A E BISHOP 26 Jan 1970 [3 Feb 1969] 3729/70 Heading B7H An input shaft 1 is splined at 6 to a steering worm 5 to provide limited lost motion. A torsion bar 7 is serrated at 4 to provide a rigid connection between the bar 7 and worm 5. A valve sleeve 9 carries sealing rings 12, 13 and 14 to accommodate misalignments due, e.g., to deflection of the bearings 3 under load. A sleeve 16 surrounds the worm 5 and sleeve 9 and is sealed by 0-rings 19 and 17 respectively, which permit slight axial misalignment between the worm and the sleeve. The sleeve 9 and worm 5 are connected without lost motion by a packing key 23 fitted in slots 31, 32 between the ends (22a, 22b), Fig. 2 (not shown), of a spring (22). In a modification, Fig. 4 (not shown), the key is replaced by a pin (33) engaging the end (34a) of a spring 34. _</p> |
