<p>Asbestos cement pipes exhibit improved corrosion resistance when wholly or surface impregnated with water soluble lime fixing fluosilicates. Pref. fluosilicates are those of Al, Mg and Zn, pref. in conjunction with amino base org. cpds., formaldehyde or products of decomposition of albumen. Impregnation is pref. carried out by dipping or spraying of the asbestos cement fleece prior to coiling on a mandrel. The treatment is particularly suitable for pressure pipes as it prevents localised lime hydrating which weakens the material.</p> |
