<p>1366867 Piezo-electric igniters L LIGHT 14 Oct 1971 [22 July 1970] 35620/70 Heading F4F [Also in Division H2] A lighter comprises a piezo-electric spark generator mounted in a sleeve 86 supported when not in use in a reservoir 80 for liquid fuel, the end of the sleeve which enters the reservoir carrying a wad 93 of absorbent material located between a pair of electrodes connected to a piezo-electric element. The fuel is carried by a disc 83 of absorbent material at the bottom of the reservoir and covered by a disc 84 of non- porous material having a hole 85 to receive the end of the generator. To operate the lighter, the sleeve is withdrawn from the reservoir and pressure on a push-button 102 causes a cam surface on a slot 100 to release a pin 99 on a slidable hammer 98 from a notch in a further slot 101 whereupon the hammer is propelled by a spring into engagement with the piezo-electric element. The resulting spark across the electrodes ignites fuel absorbed by the wad 93. On release of the push-button, a further spring returns it and the hammer to the initial position, the hammer being carried along by engagement of the lower edge of slot 100 with the pin 99.
