A tree trunk bark and branch removal device consists of a cutting frame with two symmetrical pivot arms (2), one each side of the trunk (5) attached to two horizontal arms (4) supported above the trunk by a vertical shaft (16) at the centre, with a sliding shoe (15) at its base, the whole carrying a set of tensioning springs (14, 18) so that it can be moved along the trunk travelling on sets of wheels (8) each side, rotating about vertical axes, and at the same time adapt itself to the changing size of the tree trunk. The two pivot arms (21) are externally grooved, to act as guides for an endless cutting chain (22), with part of its strand spanning the upper tims of the arms, and the bottom part following the contour of the trunk. The whole is driven through a universally jointed shaft by a motor at the rear, resting on the trunk.
|
