1444869 Ship for transporting cryogenic liquids CHICAGO BRIDGE & IRON CO 18 Dec 1974 [8 Feb 1974] 54805/74 Heading F4P A ship hold 14 is fitted with a tank suitable for cryogenic liquids the tank comprising a metal shell having a flat bottom 21 and a generally spheroidal upper section 20 with a knuckle portion 25 tangentially joined to the upper section, insulation 24, e.g. balsa wood, is disposed between the hold bottom and the tank bottom, and a skirt 30 extends downwardly to a supporting base in the ships hold. The upper part includes a part-conical portion 27 which is joined to the portion 25 by a ring section 26. In Figs. 3 and 4, not shown, the skirt is cylindrical. Thermal insulation 38 is disposed about the exterior of the tank and skirt, and on the lower internal portion 36 of the skirt. In Fig. 5, not shown, the knuckle portion tapers from a thin bottom plate 21 to a thicker tank section 20. A liquid unpermable membrane (23), Fig. 2, not shown, extends between the tank and ship bottoms and up the insulation inside the skirt. |
