In the cooling chamber 5, the slush takes up its heat of fusion and a triple point liquid remains, which is returned to the reservoir, where it is again converted into slush by drawing off the gas through a vacuum pump 3. The gas drawn off is replaced by liquefied gas at its boiling point from a storage container 8 connected to the reservoir 1 by a pipe 10. The process may be used in the cooling of superconductors or of magnets in magnetic-cushion traction.
