Iodinated dicarboxylic acid and their salts of formula (I) are new: (where A is aminoacyl; X is a direct bond or a 1-14C hydrocarbon chain opt. interrupted by one or more O or S atoms; R1 and R2 are different and are OH or the gp. R3 and R4 are H or 1-10C alkyl opt. substd. by OH or R3+R4 and the attached N-atom form a heterocyclic ring opt. interrupted by another hetero-atom). They are useful as radiographic contrast agents, preferably for urography, which are of low toxicity and are rapidly eliminated by kidneys.
