The chamber 48 is connected to the valve diaphragm chamber 26, the chamber 74 is connected to atmosphere, or to the intake manifold 12 and the calibrated atmospheric air bleed 88, and the chamber 76 is connected to the carburetter Venturi 16. A valving portion (68a) of the diaphragm 68 co-operates with the outlet 54 of a pipe 58 leading to a manifold vacuum reservoir 56 and with an air bleed valve 70 so that dependent upon the position of valving portion in dependence upon the forces on the diaphragms 68 and 72 and the force of a - tension spring 82, the chamber 48 communicates with either the atmosphere or the reservoir 56 to provide a vacuum in the chamber which is greater than the Venturi vacuum.
