The equipment forms loops of strip material hanging down freely from guide rollers, the material having to be transported through a treatment chamber. The rollers travel through a housing on an endless chain, and are rotated after contact with an auxiliary conveyor so as to transport the material. The rollers (5") are accelerated in the drive direction before engaging in the auxiliary conveyor (18). There can be a drive mechanism engaging with the rollers, which rotate freely in the endless conveyor (4), briefly, before the auxiliary conveyor, and actuated by the incoming roller. The mechanism can comprise a lever actuated by a tension spring.
