A guide for deflecting the path of a hot extruding parison comprises a sloping channel or gutter which can move into a position to intercept the path of the descending parison and which has gas jets to assist movement of the parison down the guide. The guide leads the parison to an ancillary system, e.g. a conveyor, bin or sec. guide, for removing the discharged piece of parison. Used to remove and recover parison material from a blow moulding machine if and when prodn. is interrupted further downstream. It is safer than manual deflection of the parison path from between halves of an open mould, and can be actuated to intervene automatically.
