<p>The device is intended to open oysters without effort. A lever (1) supports in its centre the main grasping device composed of an outer part (3) the extremity of which ends in a hollow punch. Inside this punch the piece (4) whose upper part is a helicoidal screw slides freely. By a vertical pressure on the lever (1) the shell of the oyster is pierced. A second and simultaneous pressure of the fingers on the lever (2) makes the steel point come out of the punch. This steel point is curved and takes up a semi-horizontal position and effects a total rotation with the help of the helicoidal screw, sectioning the muscle that holds the oyster closed. The device opens with equal facility flat Belon oysters and hollow Portuguese oysters.</p> |
