<p>The alloy contains 0.5 (1.5-3.5)% Fe, and has a compsn. within the alpha-phase, but near the alpha/alpha+beta phase boundary so the alloy solidifies as metastable alpha + beta, and is hot worked (a) followed by heating (b) to obtain a homogeneous alpha-phase, and then cold working(c). Heating(b) is pref. at 650-800 degrees C. For an alloy on the alpha/alpha + beta boundary with a theoretical amt. X% Zn, the actual amt. Y% is pref. between X-4% and X, esp. between X-2% and X-0.5%. The pref. alloys include (1) 5-20% Ni, 30-42% Zn, 0.5-5% Fe, rest Cu, (2) 5-20% Ni, 20-39% Zn, 1-15% Mn, 0.5-5% Fe, rest Cu, (3) 6-14% Ni, 33-39% Zn, 2-10% Mn, 1-4% Fe, rest Cu, and (4) 8-12% Ni, 34-37% Zn, 2.5-5% Mn, 2-3% Fe, rest Cu.</p> |
