Anode for electrolysis cells has a busbar(a) for carrying the current, with numerous thin rods (b) attached to bar (a); each rod(b) has a rigid core(b1) coated with a layer (b2) of Pb-Ag alloy. Rod (b) is pref. a round Al bar or tube of Al, coated by extrusion with Pb-Ag(b2). The rod(b) is bent into a "U" with long legs aligned via. plastic tubes contg. holes for the rods; whereas the tubes(b) have their bottom ends closed by the insulating plug. See also 869466. Used e.g. for the electrolytic mfr. of Zn, where thousands of Pb-Ag anodes are used. As compared with a conventional Pb-Ag anode, a substantial saving in cost is achieved by reducing the amt. of Ag required; and improved electrolyte circulation is obtd.
|
