Grinding sheet attached releasably to grinding disc with adhesive - by providing sheet with layer increasing shearing and reducing stripping forces

Grinding sheet is releasably attached to a flexible rotatable supporting disc by providing the reverse face of the grinding sheet with a layer which is coated with an adhesive serving to attach the sheet to the disc. The adhesive makes only partial bond with the layer and the adhesion is strongest to withstand the forces acting in the plane of the sheet but weakest in the plane normal to the sheet. Sheet can be quickly replaced due to weak adhesion in the normal direction without tearing the sheet. Layer withstands the shearing forces at the interface whilst simultaneously reinforcing the material of the sheet.
