A process for the preparation of compound of the general formula <IMAGE> I described, in which a compound of formula <IMAGE> II is reacted with alcohol or phenol of formula <IMAGE> III in an organic solvent to form a compound of formula <IMAGE> IV which is converted by acid or base catalyzed reaction to form a compound of formula <IMAGE> V which is then rearranged in the presence of base to form the desired product.
