<p>A cash safe (10, 150) having a receptacle (12, 152) to hold cash inserted through a slot (14, 174) and having an opening (18, 164) for removal of cash from the receptacle. The receptacle has a closure (20, 166) positionable to cover the opening (18, 164). The safe includes a locking means (15, 178) for locking the closure in position and a clockwork timer (32, 184) operable on actuation of the locking means (15, 178) to prevent the locking means from being deactuated for a time period. The cash safe in one embodiment is arranged for actuation of the locking means (15) by turning a knob (42) which also winds up the clockwork timer (32). In this case a key lock (62) is provided operable to latch the timer (32) so that operation of the timer (32) to begin said time period is inhibited until release of the key lock (62). In another embodiment a key lock (212) is provided which actuates the locking means (15) and at the same time winds up the timer (184). In this case the key lock (212) inhibits timing by the timer of said time period until the key lock is moved to a condition for opening the safe. Provision is also made for actuation of a marker device (80, 81, 105) to mark the contents of the safe when the safe is removed from a surface on which it rests.</p> |
