PURPOSE:To prevent layers from increasing in number as well as the mixture of currents flowing in and out by a method wherein the opposed electrode is elongated, and the signal current is made to flow in from said elongated portion. CONSTITUTION:One end of the opposed electrode 14 is elongated along the base- portion electrode 12, and said elongated portion is used as a signal line 22. The other end of the electrode 14 is connected to the ground plane 10 to ground. In said element, when a signal current IH is passed from the signal line 22, an image current flows through the electrode 12 and the plane 10 as shown by arrows, and the magnetic field acting upon the tunnel junction 16 is determined by the signal current IH and its image current i3. Besides, the signal current, which flows along the course, 22-14-10, never passes through the output end unlike the bias current. In addition, in said element, because the signal current directly applies a magnetic field to the tunnel junction, the magnetic field has the value obtained when the thickness of the insulating layer 20 is zero, so that a large magnetic field value can be obtained. |
