PURPOSE:To keep the enzymatic activity in the enzymatic hydrolysis of cellulose, stably for a long period, by using a separation membrane having a specific fractionation molecular weight. CONSTITUTION:A buffer solution, an enzyme-containing solution and a substrate solution are supplied to the reactor 10 from the tanks 6, 7, and 8, respectively. The solutions are made to react with each other under heating and stirring, and the liquid produced by the enzymatic reaction is sent with the pump 2 to the ultrafiltration apparatus 1. The product obtained by the reaction is discharged through the line 11, and large particles such as microbial cells are recycled to the reactor 10 through the line 12. The separation membrane used in the ultrafiltration apparatus 1 of the apparatus for the decomposition of cellulose with an enzyme (cellulase) is the one having a fractionation molecular weight of 3X 10<4>-1X10<3> (preferably polyacrylonitrile or polysulfone hollow fiber). |
