In the case of casks for the storage of radioactive substances, in particular ultimate storage, the radioactive substances are surrounded with respect to the storage space by a ceramic corrosion-protective layer, the starting material of which can be processed as a free-flowing mass. In order to avoid high temperatures and high pressures in processing, it is proposed according to the invention that the free-flowing mass is a ceramic-based casting compound (M) which cures pressurelessly and at low temperature. In this case it is possible for the radioactive substances, in fine-particled or piece form, to be mixed with the casting compound and poured into a mould for curing. In the case of a cask which has a corrosion-protective container (4, 12, 12a, 12b) with a receiving space receiving the radioactive substances (7, 8), according to the invention the radioactive substances are enclosed in the receiving space by the casting compound (M) which cures pressurelessly and at low temperature, to be precise they are enclosed directly or with a further, preferably metallic, container in between. <IMAGE>
