Backward-travel brake for cross-country ski

A backward-travel brake for a cross-country ski is proposed, which can be used irrespective of the type of design of the ski running sole, e.g. plastic coating provided with scaly texture or smooth, waxed wood. The backward-travel brake comprises a shaft which is mounted running transversely on the ski and which has a brake lever on each of the two sides of the ski. The brake levers are movable with their free end designed as engagement edge between a sliding position, which they assume during forward travel of the ski and in which they are situated in or above the plane of the ski running sole, and a braking position which projects downwards beyond the plane of the running sole and into which they pass as a result of a constantly acting pretensioning force when the ski is stationary. As soon as the ski stops, the free ends of the brake levers are placed on the snow surface of the running plane, in order automatically to be pushed deeper into the snow in the manner of a catch when the backward movement of the ski begins.
