The pneumatic tension spring according to the invention has a hollow piston rod whose internal space is connected via a passage cross-section to the annular space which is formed by the piston rod, cylinder and piston. These spaces are provided with the compressed gas filling so that a relatively large gas volume can be introduced into this gas spring, and a relatively flat-running spring characteristic can accordingly be achieved. The simple overall construction of this gas spring is advantageous, as a result of which cost-effective production is possible and little installation space is required for installation of the gas spring. In addition, this structure permits easy matching to the desired spring forces and the desired spring characteristic by means of a simple structural modification.
