The invention relates to a device for cleaning type carriers of typewriters and similar machines. The device comprises a can-shaped container which can be filled with a cleaning liquid. A type carrier holder which receives the type carrier can be attached in an exchangeable manner to a lid. When the lid is fitted onto the can, the types come into contact with brushes provided inside the container. The types are cleaned by turning the lid with the type carrier in alternate directions.
