A fuel injection pump with a control mechanism for controlling the amount of fuel is described, in which for the purpose of the engine speed-related compensation of the influence of the fuel temperature on the fuel injection quantity a heat-sensitive control element (32) exposed to the fuel temperature in the pump internal chamber and a compensation device (33) are provided. The compensation device (33) is coupled to the control element (32) in such a way that an adjusting movement of the control element (32) caused by a change in temperature is fully converted in the lower speed range but only partially in the upper speed range into an axial displacement of a control slide valve (19) for adjustment of the fuel injection quantity. <IMAGE>
