<p>A charge equalizer for a string (16) of series-connected batteries (18) includes a shunt path (20) for each of the batteries (18). The equalizer measures the voltage of each of the batteries (18) of the string (16) and then closes a switch (22) in the shunt path (20) associated with the highest voltage battery (18) for a predetermined time. Then the switches (22) of all of the shunt paths (20) are opened and the cycle repeats. In this way, charging is equalized in the batteries (18) of the string (16), regardless of whether or not any of the batteries (18) of the string (16) is in an over charged condition. <IMAGE></p> |
