SEPARATING UNIT FOR BLOOD PLASMA COMPONENT

PURPOSE:To separate efficiently blood plasma from a small amt. of the whole blood by utilizing the gravity fall owing to the own weight of the whole blood and the capillarity of fibrous filter paper. CONSTITUTION:A bottomless cylindrical object 3 supported by projections 2 serving as a guide is placed on the surface 1a of a colorless and transparent glass plate 1 having a prescribed thickness, for example, about several mm.. A filter body 4 consisting of a layered material of fibrous filter paper is contained in the object 3. A recess 4a to serve as a well for blood is provided in the upper part of the filter body 4. The whole blood supplied into the recess 4a is separated to blood cells and blood plasma in accordance with the own weight thereof and the capillarity of the fibrous filter paper. The separated blood plasma is stored like a thin film in the gap part 4b between the plate 1 and the base of the body 4. The blood plasma is thus efficiently separated from a small amt. of the whole blood.
