PURPOSE:To prevent lowering of the transmission efficiency of a bevel gear and to prevent breakage of the bevel gear, by a method wherein a second bevel gear engaged with the first bevel gear of an input shaft is connected to a screw shaft by using a locking means allowing movement in the direction of a central line of the screw shaft. CONSTITUTION:In a linear actuating mechanism 1, a screw shaft 4 threadedly joined with a rod 3 projectable from a case 2 is supported to a case 2 by means of a bearing 5. A second bevel gear 9 is connected to the one end of the screw shaft 4 through a lock means 10 formed with a spline in a manner to allow axial movement, and is geared with a first bevel gear 6 mounted on an input shaft 7. With an input shaft 7 rotated by a drive mechanism, the screw shaft 4 spline-engaged with the bevel gears 6 and 9 is rotated, and the rod 3 is moved forward and backward by means of a nut metal 19 threadedly joined with a screw part 23. This constitution enables the first and the second bevel gears to normally hold gearing at a normal position, and prevents lowering of transmission efficiency, and enables prevention of breakage of the bevel gear.
