A cathode ray tube includes two cathodes mounted parallel to each other in the horizontal direction, and a deflector. The deflector is disposed along the passages of the two electron beams emitted from the cathodes so as to apply a rotational force with the axis of the tube as its centre. The electron beams impinge on the phosphor screen at positions which are spaced apart from each other by a distance of approximately half the distance between adjacent scanning lines in the vertical direction. The deflector comprises planar electrostatic deflection plates, a quadrupole magnet or a solenoid coil.
