PURPOSE:To produce a friction material which is excellent in breaking strength under rotation even at a high temp. under a high load by coating or impregnating a specific composite fibrous substrate with a mixture comprising a binder and a friction-controlling agent and subjecting the substrate to a plurality of specific treatment. CONSTITUTION:A composite fibrous substrate prepd. by placing a fibrous reinforcement (e.g. a glass fiber) can the back surface of a fibrous substrate sheet (e.g. a glass mat) is coated or impregnated with a mixture comprising a friction- controlling agent (e.g. a melamine dust and a copper powder) and a binder (e.g. a phenol resin), wound up into the form of ring, molded, and thermally treated. |
