PURPOSE:To sufficiently attract a positive column and unify the intensity distribution by connecting a high-frequency current limiting impedance element between a proximity conductor provided along the tube wall of a discharge lamp and the output winding of an oscillation transformer. CONSTITUTION:A proximity conductor 17 is provided along the tube axis at part of the outer tube wall of a discharge lamp 16, and a high-frequency inverter circuit 13 provided with an oscillation transformer 12 is provided at an output section. A high-frequency current limiting impedance element 18 is connected between the output winding 12g of the transformer 12 of the circuit 13 and the rare gas discharge lamp 16 via high-frequency current limiting elements 14, 15. The load current flowing via the surface leakage resistance and stray capacity between the inner wall and the outer wall of the tube and the stray capacity between the proximity conductor 17 and the tube is limited. The potential difference between a positive column (a) and the conductor 17 is made sufficiently large over the whole positive column (a), and the positive column (a) is attracted over the whole conductor 17. The intensity distribution of the rare gas discharge lamp 16 can be unified over the whole tube, the starting property is improved, and the input power can be suppressed low. |
