PURPOSE: To prevent the separation of the surface of a contact part of a socket and breakage of a base plate edge part, when a base plate edge part and a contact part collide with each other in the case of inserting and pulling out the base plate, having terminals near the edge in and from a socket. CONSTITUTION: This socket comprises a carrier 2 for storing a base plate 4, having plural terminals 5 at the end surface thereof and a socket for storing plural contacts 12 coming into contact with the terminal in the interior of a body 11, a cam 13 having a lever part 15 is provided in the socket, and the lever part is engaged with a projection 10 provided on the carrier, whereby according to the insertion of the carrier in the socket, the cam 13 is turned in one direction and in the reverse direction. By this rotation, the cam 13 forces the contact 12 to be moved in the direction of separation from the terminal and the contact 12, to be moved in the direction of coming into contact with the terminal, so that the collision between the base plate edge part and the contact is prevented.
