PURPOSE:To prevent generation of seizure by providing a protective body for covering a shaft side spline part to protect an oil seal body from damage in attaching of an axle shaft, and making this protective body function as a bush after attaching of the axle shaft. CONSTITUTION:In a transmission, shaft side spline parts 82 (82-1, 82-2) of axle shafts 80 (80-1, 80-2) are spline-connected to gear side spline holes 68 (68-1, 68-2) of differential side gears 56-1, 56-2 of a differential device thereof, and journal parts 84 (84-1, 84-2) of the axle shafts 80 are retained by shaft retaining parts 58 (58-1, 58-2) of a differential case 48. Shaft retaining holes 70 (70-1, 70-2) are formed with diameters larger than the gear spline holes 68 and protective bodies 88 (88-1, 88-2) are inserted into the shaft side spline parts 82. When these shaft side spline parts 82 are inserted into the gear side spline holes 68, the protective bodies are interposed between shaft retaining parts 58 and the journal parts 84 in the shaft retaining holes 70.
