TRACKING ERROR CORRECTION METHOD AND OPTICAL RECORDING/ REPRODUCING DEVICE

PURPOSE:To provide a tracking error correction method and an optical recording/reproducing device applicable to an optical integrated pickup without increasing a cost. CONSTITUTION:A light beam irradiates a guide groove provided on the surface 28a of an optical disk 28. When a tracking error is corrected from a deviation between a light spot 35 formed on the surface 28a by the light beam and the guide groove, a reflection beam from the light spot 35 is made incident from an incident end 25 of a double mode waveguide 24 constituted so that a 0-order mode and 1st mode are excited along the direction of correcting the tracking error. Then, the position of the light spot 35 is controlled so that the distribution of light intensity in the double mode waveguide 24 becomes symmetrical.
