Electrical circuit for vehicle HV gas discharge lamp

The circuit includes a DC to AC converter (7) which changes the voltage from a switched DC supply circuit (6) to a square-wave AC voltage for the discharge lamp (10). Start pulse generator (8) produces a start pulse for the discharge lamp (10) synchronised with an output from the DC to AC converter (7). A start pulse transformer has its secondary winding connected between the output of the DC to AC converter (7) and the discharge e.g. halide lamp (10). A capacitor and breaker switch in series with the primary winding is synchronised to a special phase of the square wave output from the DC to AC converter (7).
