The mattress comprises a body (1) which has a cork covering (2) stuck onto its lying surface (3). The cork layer is formed by granules or as a mat and is joined to the mattress by a natural resin adhesive. The mattress is made of foam or latex. The other surface of the mattress away from the lying surface can also have a cork covering. The mattress, together with its cork coverings, can be encased in a textile cover.
