The operation of the brakes is controlled electronically in response to the brake control setting. To achieve an accurate brake control the actual point at which the brake start to operate is detected and stored in a programmed control. Other factors which influence the braking action are also stored e.g. axle loading, brake temperature, brake pad wear etc. The start of braking action is determined by changes in the brake pressure, wheel speed signals, vehicle motion etc. The control eliminates a separate control for the start of braking action and enables a direct brake control to be operated.
