Hydraulic antilock braking system with pressure regulator for bicycle

The hydraulic pressure source (1) activated by the brake lever is connected by a pressure line (2) to brake cylinders (3) on the front fork. The pressure regulator (5) comprises two magnetically operated two-way valves (6,7) and a fluid store (13). The magnets are energised from a controller (8) powered by a battery (9) and responsive to pulse from a wheel deceleration sensor (10). The load on the rear wheel is measured by a transducer (11). On slippery ground any tendency to lock is countered by sequential operation of the valves. Where adhesion is sufficient to produce a tendency to somersault, the valves are operated together so that pressure is reduced to a safe level.
