PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a lube base oil which is excellent in compatibility with a nonchlorine fluorocarbon, has high electrical insulating properties, and is excellent in stability such as hydrolysis resistance by using, as the effective ingredient, a specific compd. having a specified number average mol.wt. SOLUTION: This oil comprises a compd. having a number average mol.wt. of 400-2,000 and represented by formula I and/or formula II (wherein R<1> is a 2-4C alkyl; and n is a number corresponding to the above-mentioned mol.wt.), is excellent in compatibility with a nonchlorine fluorocarbon (e.g. HFC-134a) of which the use is now approved, has high electrical insulating properties, is excellent in stability for a long term, is produced by subjecting an alkylene oxide to addition reaction to di-tert-butylphenol or di-sec-butylphenol and alkylating the molecular ends of the resultant product, and may contain suitable amts. of additive usually used in a refrigerator oil, such as an antioxidant, an abrasion preventive, and a detergent-dispersant. |
