<p>In a method of leak testing a radiator (3) and a plant for carrying out such a method, the interior of the radiator (3) is pressurized with air which includes a detectable level of a test gas, such as helium, at a pressurization station. Pressurization is effected by a sealing mechanism comprising a nozzle, having a seal mounted therearound, which is pressed into an aperture in the radiator (3) to form a seal therewith and which has a gas supply duct for delivering the test gas to the radiator (3). The radiator (3) is then scanned by a plurality of probes, in particular concentrating on the weld seams (6) of the radiator (3), in order to detect the presence of helium which signifies leakage of gas from the radiator. Each gas analysis probe (5) comprises a probe head (5) mounted within a tube (15) for sampling gas therein. A vacuum pump or the like for drawing gas into an open end of the tube and past the probe head is connected to the tube so that gas from a much wider range than has previously been possible is detected by the probe (5).</p> |
