PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an artificial marble having enhanced water and oil repellency and peeling resistance and less liable to stain in a part where water is used by chemically bonding a silane surfactant having a chlorosilyl or alkoxysilyl group at one terminal to the surface of a artificial marble contg. an inorg. filler. SOLUTION: A resin component is mixed with aluminum hydroxide or glass fibers as an inorg. filler, a constant shrinking agent, a catalyst, a crosslinking agent, a pigment, etc., and the mixture is cured and shaped by hot pressing or other method to form a artificial marble substrate 1. The surface of this substrate 1 is coated with a silane surfactant 2 having a chlorosilyl or alkoxysilyl group at one terminal. The chlorosilyl or alkoxysilyl group bonds chemically to the -OH group of H2O adsorbed on the inorg. filler and forms a surfactant 2 layer sticking tightly to the surface of the substrate 1 in the form of a monomolecular film. The surfactant may be chemically bonded to the surface of the inorg. filler before addition to the resin component.
