PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To even a heat releasing volume from a molten steel and a solidification shell in a width direction of a drum and form a solidification shell which is constant in a width direction by installing a cooling means to be used exclusively for both ends to a drum, and equalizing cooling abilities of a drum center part and a drum end. SOLUTION: A cooling drum 1a for a twin drum type thin plate continuous casting device has a ring-shaped protrusion part 1t at an end part, with which a side weir 2 is brought into contact, and a cooling structure 7 for circulating a coolant to a shaft part 1s. A heat pipe 8, which is filled inside with a small amount of operation liquid, namely water 9, is arranged to the cooling drum 1a. Latent heat is absorbed at the end due to evaporation and shrinkage of the water 9 so as to even the cooling distribution in the width direction including the end part. It is also preferable that a metallic porous element having micro probes is arranged to the cooling drum end. A stainless steel sintered compact, a steel of the like of 10-500μm pore diameter and 0-60% porosity are suitable for the metallic porous element. The solvent distributed inside the cooling drum is oozed out from the micro pores, so as to cool the cooling drum end.
