ILLUMINATOR FOR PHOTODYNAMIC THERAPY

Several U-shaped fluorescent tubes (10) are supported in housing (30) and are covered by a polycarbonate shield (40), which directs cooling air within the housing. An aluminum reflector (50) is located behind the tubes for reflecting the light towards the target, providing uniform irradiance. The fluorescent tubes are driven by three electronic ballasts. The polycarbonate shield prevents patient and glass contact during breakage of fluorescent tubes. The overall size of the illuminator is 38 X 45 X 44.5 cm 3>. An independent claim is also included for photodynamic diagnosing method.
