IMAGE INTERPOLATING METHOD

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image interpolating method capable of preventing generation of ruggedness and blur on an edge part and reproducing a smooth image when an image is interpolated. SOLUTION: This image interpolating method for interpolating a pixel at an intermediate position between a first original pixel and a second original pixel adjacent to the first original pixel comprises a first step of calculating edge components to decide whether or not interpolation pixels exist in the vicinity of an edge position of original image data, a second step of calculating a settable range of pixel data of the interpolation pixels based on the calculated edge components and a third step of selecting plural sets of opposite pixels to hold the interpolation pixels in the oblique direction and to calculate the pixel data and the minimum correlation value of the interpolation pixels the correlation value of which to be expressed by the sum of absolute values of the difference between the pixel data of the interpolation pixels and each opposite pixel becomes minimum in the settable range of the pixel data of the interpolation pixels by every set are provided.
