PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a floating head slider capable of continuously floating in a stable attitude without being brought into contact with a recording medium by falling during loading. SOLUTION: In a floating head slider 18, a ridge line 34 for defining the air inlet end of a base surface 32 is extended along a first reference line 54 in the slider width direction. This first reference line 54 is set to be orthogonal to a center line 55 extended in a back and forth direction of a slider body 31. The air inlet end of a front air bearing surface 40 is defined along a second reference line 56 intersecting such a first reference line 54 by a specified inclined angleθ. In the floating head slider 18 of this type, as the incident angleγof an air flow colliding on a step 42 before the front air bearing surface 40 is reduced, the pitch angleαof the slider body 31 is also reduced.
