PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To efficiently carry out dehalogenating treatment of an organic halogen compound without producing polymers difficult to treat by solving problems that treatment is complicated and a large amount of waste oils is rejected though it is necessary to add a diluting oil for treating the organic halogen compound at a high concentration in the conventional art and the rate of reaction is reduced to require a long time for treatment though it is necessary to carry out reaction at a low temperature. SOLUTION: This method for treating the organic halide compound comprises regulating the apparent stirring Reynolds number of a reactional liquid to >=100 (preferably >=1,000) and <=100,000 and making a hydrogen donor present in the reactional liquid in the method for treating the organic halogen compound comprising reacting the organic halogen compound with an alkali metal or an alkaline earth metal and carrying out the dehalogenating treatment of the organic halogen compound.
