<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize effective encoding of interlaced scanning video sequence. SOLUTION: An input image (1) is divided into small blocks of image data (2), and two fields in each of the blocks are inspected concerning correlation (3). When the difference between two fields in the block is small (correlation is high), the block is encoded by a frame encoding method, where all lines in the block are subjected to sequential scanning, i.e., by using an effectively designed inter-frame movement compensating method and intra-frame subsampling method of color data (6). When the difference between two field in the block is large (correlation is low), the block is encoded by field encoding process where the correlation in each field (intra-field) and the investigation of the correlation between each of the fields and its adjacent field (inter-field) are intensified (5).</p> |
