PURPOSE: Provided are an anode active material for lithium secondary battery excellent in electrochemical properties such as cycle life, discharge potential, and power, and a method for preparing the same. CONSTITUTION: The anode active material for lithium secondary battery consists of a core comprising lithium compound; and a surface-treated layer comprising at least one metal compound selected from the group consisting of metal hydroxide, metal oxyhydroxide, metal oxycarbonate, and metal hydroxycarbonate, which is formed on the core. The cathode active material is produced by the steps of (i) coating a lithium compound with organic metal solution or aqueous metal solution; and (ii) drying the coated compound.
